Home Robberies, Update from MPD
Neighbors,
There was an attempted break in on Cedar Terrace yesterday. The suspect parked a green sedan in the driveway and was in the process of removing the window screen when the home owner returned. The same suspect knocked on a neighbors door. When the neighbor answered the suspecet asked for directions to the train (even though they were driving a car).
There was a break in this past Wednesday on 88 Granite Ave (between the golf course & the DPW yard). Again in this situation entry was made via a window screen.
It's a stark reminder that we need to remain alert and we need to keep our homes & cars locked.
Stay safe & Enjoy your weekends!

As the summer comes to a close it is important to continue to take precautions to prevent mosquito-borne viruses as late summer and early fall (until the first hard frost) is usually a period with increased infection rates. The recent and continuing detection of West Nile Virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) activity in the Milton area certainly highlights the need for continued personal protection measures.
The Milton Board of Health and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) remind residents to reduce their risk of mosquito-borne viruses by using appropriate personal protective measures.
Limit your time outdoors during peak periods of mosquito activity (dusk and dawn) or, if you must remain outdoors, wear a long-sleeved shirt and long pants.
Use a mosquito repellent that contains DEET or Picaridin. Oil of lemon eucalyptus may also be considered. Products with permethrin should only be used on clothing. Always follow the directions on the label. Repellents should not be used on children younger than two months of age. Oil of lemon eucalyptus should not be used on children under three years of age.
Cover up the arms and legs of children playing outdoors. When you bring a baby outdoors, cover the baby’s carriage or playpen with mosquito netting.
Fix any holes in screens and make sure they are tightly attached to all doors and windows.
Remove any standing water from backyards so mosquitoes can’t breed. Mosquitoes will begin to breed in any puddle or standing water that lasts for more than four days. Make sure water does not collect and stagnate in ceramic pots, trash cans, recycling containers, old tires, wading pools, birds baths, etc. Remove leaves and debris that may prevent drainage of roof gutters.
The Norfolk County Mosquito Control Project (NCMCP) continues to conduct weekly ground based spraying on Thursday late evening between sunset and midnight based on resident’s requests and mosquito activity monitoring, weather permitting. Residents who wish to have their property sprayed by NCMCP should fill out an online request form at www.norfolkcountymosquito.org each week by Thursday at 12:00 PM. If any resident wishes to know when the spray program may be conducted in their area, they should go to the Project’s website where map and/or street listings will be posted on or about 3:30 PM each Thursday.
More information on mosquito-borne diseases, their symptoms, on protecting yourself from bites by mosquitoes, and on safe application of mosquito repellents can be obtained by visiting the MDPH web site on arboviral (mosquito-transmitted) diseases http://www.mass.gov/dph/mosquito.
In addition, the Milton Board of Health reminds residents to also be aware of the increasing occurrence of Lyme disease in Milton. The highest risk period of infection runs through early fall. The single most important thing is to check yourself for ticks once a day (don’t forget to check children and pets too). For more information please visit the MDPH website on tickborne diseases http://www.mass.gov/dph/tick.

Water Works!
Just got off the phone with Brian Carlisle with the Town of Milton. I wanted to know what was going on here at the corner of Squantum Street and Cedar Terrace. I am told they are moving the water connection at Cedar Terrace from an old 6" water line under Squantum to a new 12" main which should improve water flow to our neighborhood. As to how long the work will continue, we don't know. By doing this in house we are saving tax payers money, but other emergencies in town could interrupt work here. The good news is this is preventative maintenance work and only a minor inconvenience to us!

Check out the link to a web site about 5 Miltons in the United States! The producers have been in each town interviewing people from each of the Miltons! Read all about it and answer the question that they post on the web site! Be sure to upload a photo or video too! I met the producers and this is just part of the project that they will present to the town in a year or two!

update
Just a quick update. It looks like our young neighbor who has caused some problems over the last year is back at 6 Pine Grove. I hadn't seen him for at least 2 months.
Last Monday (7/15) I saw a cab pull up in front of my house on Cedar Terrace around 5pm and saw someone run through the Clark's yard and I thought to myself... "here we go again". I spoke to the cab driver and the girl passenger (probably a girlfriend, I have seen them together every time I see him) in the back seat, he had run to go get money to pay the cab fare. When he jumped back over the fence I asked him not to cut through the yard and when he went back he walked around on the street. The old man cut over the fence too but I didn't bother going back out to talk to him, didn't look like he would be able to walk that far on the street and hopefully got the message from the kid.
So far, things have been quiet. Saw them sitting on their front steps yesterday and said hello.
Hopefully things will remain quiet but I just wanted to let everyone know. Seems like they can't get a cab to go to their address so they usually end up on Cedar Terrace, which they have been doing for well over a year. Milton Police said they won't really do anything about trespassing but I think it is still worth noting given the history we have with the residents of that address.

From the Milton Police Department Face Book posting on July 11th 2013
From the Milton Police Department Face Book posting on July 11th 2013
Good afternoon:
If you read any of the local media today or watched the Chief before the BOS last evening, you would have noticed his report regarding a spike in both residential and nighttime car break-ins for the first (6) months of 2013. All of you who follow us on FB regularly have seen many posts regarding theses crimes.
We are also grateful to Frank Schroth, mytownmatters02186, Milton Patch, Milton Times and Boston.com for providing essential support helping to spread our message to a broad audience.
In a community of 27,000 plus, these crimes might not catch your attention in the media. For victims of these thefts however, such offenses become very personal. The message today is very simple. First we need you, (our citizens) who play such a critical role in preserving the quality of life in Milton, to always pick up the phone anytime you see someone unfamiliar to your neighborhood. It is very important in many of these cases to call us should someone appear at you door unannounced. The person could use a similar line such as, "I am sorry I must have the wrong house. " Issues like this are suspicious enough to warrant a quick call to the MPD. Many times such a call and or visitor may check out. It could also be your call that leads to the interception of a potential suspect. Another very important point is to take notice of someone entering the driveway or backyard of a neighbor. 95% of residential breaks take place via a rear door or window.
Finally, as we have repeated publicly many times, just as you should lock your home during the day, you have to lock your car at night. These car thieves look for everything from spare change, to high priced electronic items (IPhones, GPS, I Pods) you may have left inside your vehicle. Once again, 99% percent of these crimes involved "unlocked vehicles."
Milton is a great Town and working together we can once again use our collective efforts to help eradicate these crimes...

I sent an invitation to all the emails we had from the neighborhood meeting a few months ago. Some new people have moved in. Please forward their email to me to add them to the list if they would like to participate. My email is brianpfs@gmail.com I think I made this private enough that only those of you that were invited can view it! You have been granted the ability to make your own posts or just comment on others! Only you can edit those posts. I tested the blog earlier today, Shane sent a message about some activity in the neighborhood and I received an email right away about it. This is a quick easy way to stay informed especially if it is time sensitive. Hope your enjoying your summer!

Hello neighbors, this is Brian, not quite sure I know what I am doing, but thought I would give it a try! Many of you received an email about some recent break ins in the Courtland Circle neighborhood on the North side of the golf course. I thought that by having a blog you could post comments and concerns that can be seen by everyone. So let me know what you think. Lets keep this positive and proactive. We have a great neighborhood because all of you make it great! We do need to be aware that there are some people in the world that do bad things! So we need to keep an eye out for one another. Like watch each others back! So if you see something that does not look right, call the police and make a post!
Now don't forget you can post good news too! New baby pictures! Other happy news that you only want to share with the neighborhood! Not all of us are on each others face book page or want to be. So this is a place we can share neighborly stuff!
What a Country! What a Neighborhood!
