From the Milton Police Department Face Book posting on July 11th 2013
Good afternoon:
If you read any of the local media today or watched the Chief before the BOS last evening, you would have noticed his report regarding a spike in both residential and nighttime car break-ins for the first (6) months of 2013. All of you who follow us on FB regularly have seen many posts regarding theses crimes.
We are also grateful to Frank Schroth, mytownmatters02186, Milton Patch, Milton Times and Boston.com for providing essential support helping to spread our message to a broad audience.
In a community of 27,000 plus, these crimes might not catch your attention in the media. For victims of these thefts however, such offenses become very personal. The message today is very simple. First we need you, (our citizens) who play such a critical role in preserving the quality of life in Milton, to always pick up the phone anytime you see someone unfamiliar to your neighborhood. It is very important in many of these cases to call us should someone appear at you door unannounced. The person could use a similar line such as, "I am sorry I must have the wrong house. " Issues like this are suspicious enough to warrant a quick call to the MPD. Many times such a call and or visitor may check out. It could also be your call that leads to the interception of a potential suspect. Another very important point is to take notice of someone entering the driveway or backyard of a neighbor. 95% of residential breaks take place via a rear door or window.
Finally, as we have repeated publicly many times, just as you should lock your home during the day, you have to lock your car at night. These car thieves look for everything from spare change, to high priced electronic items (IPhones, GPS, I Pods) you may have left inside your vehicle. Once again, 99% percent of these crimes involved "unlocked vehicles."
Milton is a great Town and working together we can once again use our collective efforts to help eradicate these crimes...
